Interesting German viola around 1780
Interesting German viola around 1780
For sale is a very interesting and melodious old German viola, made around 1780. Unfortunately there is no makers label in this instrument, but it can be said that the makers at that time in Germany, when high Stainer models were usually built in Germany, he probably had insights or ideas into the Italian violin making of the 18th century. The F-holes, reminiscent of Amati, and the flat curvature are relatively unusual for a German instrument of this time. In terms of sound, this viola also has a lot to offer, to be honest, it sounds like an instrument with a much higher price. It is powerful, yet fine and colorful and just like a viola should sound - dark in tone, further more with a great response and easy to play. Despite a relatively small body length of 40,0 cm, this instrument does not compromise on sound and, thanks to its smaller size, is also very comfortable to play without losing volume or power.
