French violin made for Collin-Mezin, Paris 1941
French violin made for Collin-Mezin, Paris 1941
A nice French violin made by Collin-Mezin. The instrument is a supplied work by a violin maker from the area. Colin-Mezin has occasionally given instrument orders to other violin makers and manufacturers in the area. These instruments have the note "Collaborateur" on their labels. This violin was probably built in the house of Laberte for Collin-Mezin, this also explains the other type of varnish technique which was made in the antique style. Inside the violin it bears the original label by Collin-Mezin fils Paris, from 1941. The violin has a very powerful, assertive, open sound, not at all nasal or closed, which is often said of French violins. A very nice strong violin with a great robust G-string and brilliant highs. The body length is 36 cm and the instrument is in an immaculate state of preservation.
