Milanese Cello circa 1800
Milanese Cello circa 1800
This beautiful Milanese cello from around 1800 is a rare and remarkable example of Northern Italian craftsmanship, closely related in character and construction to the instruments of the Testore school.
Over the years, various documents have attributed this cello to Paolo Testore, and although the most recent certificate by Heronymus Köstler confirms its Milanese origin around 1800, it refrains from attributing it to a specific maker. Still, an authentic cello from this period and region is a rare treasure in itself—and this one stands out in more than just provenance.
What makes this cello truly special is its outstanding tonal character: it offers a rich, noble and colorful sound, paired with an impressive volume and projection. It is the kind of instrument that inspires from the very first note—a cello one does not come across every day.
The cello comes from private ownership and has recently undergone a complete new professional setup (please note that the setup shown in the photos is no longer current). Starting April 6, the instrument will be available for trial by appointment.
