Fine ebony/gold mounted violin bow by Paul Richard Heberlein around 1950
Fine gold/ebony mounted German violin made by Paul Richard Heberlein around 1950. Beautiful strong round stick of a very nice brown yellow color, Weight: 59 grams. Certified by Josef P. Gabriel/Mathias Wohlleber.
Paul Heberlein learned the craft of bow making in Markneukirchen between 1896 and 1899 from Hermann Richard Pfretzschner. He also spent his jouneyman´s years in the Pfretzschner workshop until he opened his own workship in Markneukirchen in 1907. P. Heberlein worked in his small workshop at Leithen 402 remaining both quite productive and successful well into his old age.
His bows were sold both in Germany and in particular on the American market. His primary customers where his brother Theodor Heberlein´s violin shop in Indianapolis and that of his school friend William Moennig in Philadelphia. Over the course of his long working career, Paul Heberlein´s bows remain impressive through their remarkably consistent craftmanship and stylistic execution.
