Expert Online Identification for Your String Instrument
Have you ever wondered about the true origin of your violin, viola, or cello? Finding a knowledgeable and reliable expert can be challenging—especially for those unfamiliar with the intricate world of fine string instruments. While many violin makers are masters of craftsmanship, their expertise often lies in construction and repair rather than in identifying an instrument’s provenance. This is where my experience makes all the difference.
With nearly 20 years of daily hands-on experience, I have examined thousands of instruments, continuously expanding my expertise through specialized literature, auction visits, and close collaboration with the world’s leading violin experts. Over the years, I have also built an extensive archive, allowing me to assess and compare instruments with precision.
This archive is constantly growing, thanks to the many fine original instruments I continue to acquire in order to expand my collection.
Lastly, much of my expertise has been gained through the daily buying and selling of instruments, which has further sharpened my eye for quality and origin.
As a professional dealer, my knowledge is not just theoretical—it is something I rely on every single day. Identifying the origins, schools, and makers of string instruments requires a trained eye and a deep understanding of historical craftsmanship. This is my daily bread and butter: I am constantly surrounded by instruments, and I must rely on my eye and experience to make accurate assessments. That trust in my own judgment has been honed through years of direct, daily contact with fine string instruments.
